Who We Are
*Keep an eye out for our shiny new video!*
Food Sharing is a food-waste reduction movement that started in Germany, connecting businesses with excess food to people that could eat it. In 2013 a group of students began Food Sharing in Edinburgh, and since then groups have popped up in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Stirling and Dumfries. Our core activity involves re-distributing excess food from businesses to the community. We also facilitate the exchange of excess food between individuals (mostly on Facebook), run Disco Soup event and host educational workshops.

About Food Waste
We envision a food system that ends the status quo of food waste. This food system fosters empowered communities of happy, healthy people whose active engagement with the food system helps them live in balance with their environment.
Share and Receive Food
We are about to launch an app that will make food sharing easier for you. Bringing the experience of our food waste activists, our non-profit app will promote a culture of non-monetary sharing culture within Scottish communities. The app will enable you to exchange food with your neighbours and will give information about Food Sharing events taking place in your area. It will be available for android, iOs and webapp. Join our mailing list to get the latest news:
Food Sharing distributes excess food to communities across Scotland for free. There is no restriction on who can receive this food, it is free for everyone. We kindly request that you don’t use food for any commercial purpose (e.g. sell it) or throw away edible food.
What We Do
We are aiming to save 100 tonnes of Carbon this year through the following activities:
Collection and Redistribution
Food Sharing collects good quality excess food from local businesses and re-distributes it to the community. We share food with friends and neighbours, at events, with charities and social enterprises and in publicly accessible dropboxes. These businesses have no obligation to donate their food but chose to avoid seeing good food go to waste.

Sustainable Food Education
Food Sharing Edinburgh runs a series of sustainable cooking workshops in student halls, teaching students basic cooking skills and tasty no-waste recipes. Volunteers run these workshops after being trained by a chef. Email us to get involved: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Disco Soup is a global movement of people uniting to reduce food waste to a Disco Beat! We bring the community together to chop and cook “waste” vegetables into an amazing soup which is given out to guests for free.
