Fuel for School Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about food sustainability to help us engage with the children of Edinburgh!

About the Opportunity

  • Food Sharing is looking for volunteers to help deliver our Fuel for Schools programme
  • Through Fuel for Schools, we will be teaching waste reduction lessons in local high schools whilst delivering a weekly box of excess food for children to use for a pay-as-you-feel stall. We will be teaching about food waste and food systems with a focus on how food interacts with the Sustainable Development Goals
  • You would be designing lesson plans around 1-2 Sustainable Development Goals before delivering lessons in pairs to High School children
  • You will receive 2 hours of teacher training and support in designing your lessons plans
  • This is an excellent opportunity to gain teaching experience and experience in sustainability education
  • In this role, you can make a real difference to children’s attitudes towards food and food waste

Skills and Experience

  • We are looking for volunteers with experience in education or experience of working with children

Practical Details

  • You will need to attend one training session on Thursday 30th August, between 6pm and 8pm.
  • You will need to be available for at least 2 of the following lesson times:
    • Monday September 3rd, 12.00
    • Wednesday September 5th, 9.40
    • Thursday September 6th, 1.45
    • Friday September 7th, 12,00
  • We may be delivering additional lessons in October and November
  • We will be teaching in a Marchmont school in Autumn 2018
  • This volunteer role is fully supported by the Food Sharing Project Coordinator
